Well, 2008 was finished off in Grand Style. Our family cruise aboard the Voyager was incredible. We had a great time! The first sea day was rough...and Dennis and I picked up stomach bug, so the first day was spent in our luxurious Junior Suite.
The rest of the family also loved the cabins! We even brought along a 3 foot Christmas tree, window decals for the balcony door, Christmas lights with tiny suction cups to decorate our vanity mirrors and the fronts of our recently rec'd Christmas cards which we attached magnets too and hung on our cabin doors! They were real cute and helped us find out cabins!
Our food was good, not great. Our waiter was good, asst. waiter was terrific! He was from Turkey and taught the girls that Grandpa in Turkey as "baba"! So from now on the girls call Dale: BaBa Dale!
The ship was gorgeous..huge 3 story Christmas tree in the Royal Promenade.
Mom and Dad loved the Pig and Whistle..it's an English style pub on the Royal Promenade with sidewalk cafe seating. They would sit there and watch the guests stroll by and have a drink. They even ran into old friends from Point Comfort!
We went to Paradise Beach in Cozumel, went to Stingray City in Grand Cayman and Dr's Cave beach in Jamaica for Christmas Day! The ship was full, but it wasn't an issue!
Emily sang Karaoke several nights, Jackie and Dale had never seen or heard her do that - another special memory!
Christmas Eve was incredible. We went as a family to the Holiday on Ice Spectacular and well, it just doesn't get any better than that! I sat next to mom and dad and watched tears well up in their eyes as the singers sang beautiful Christmas Carols and ice skaters interpreted those songs on ice! WOW! Then it was time for the Cruise Director to do a reading of "Twas the night before Christmas" which we all enjoyed. Then all of the guests went to the Royal Promenade at 11 for a group sing-along of Christmas Carols! 3000 people singing "Silent Night"! Damn, I get goosebumps just remembering it!
The weather for the remainder of the cruise was great. Mom, Dad and Shelley watched as the rest of us swam with the stingrays! Dad did have trouble walking the long piers - so I think we'll rent a transport wheelchair for the Spring Break cruise. We all didn't mind the slow pace but the rest of the group Spring Break might!
I hope someday my kids get to spend a Christmas like this again. It was sad that Steve was away from his family on Christmas day, but it was a joy in my life that I'll probably never have again.
Surely: Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take but by the places and the moments that take our breath away.
Amen
