A Summer Update

HOT! Okay, that's the word from Pearland Texas!

Seriously though, summer is in full swing. Activities have been coming at us a mile a minute! We've had parties and company and joy watching Emily move from a child of ours to a grownup with a career!

Finished reading a book Shelley recommended, "Unsung Lullabies". It's a "self-help" type book for those facing infertility issues. I highly recommend it to anyone who has family or close friends facing this problem. Sometimes well meaning comments from friends and family are just 'dagger's' in the heart to those facing the sadness of lullabies unsung.....Glad I read it, it helps me to understand a little more what my kids are going through.

The new house is up and running in Horseshoe Bay. The lockbox holds the key for those of you who'd like to sneak away for a weekend. Just call me for the combination!

We move Emily's belongings from Lubbock to Horseshoe Bay/Marble Falls this weekend. We'll put her house on the market and hopefully have a quick sale! Emily is apartment hunting now, she hopes to be move in by Aug. 1st to get settled in before school starts on Aug. 17th.

Dennis and I are really excited that we're coming to the end of the road at this active "parenting" role. Emily's job offer was the final step to separating our lives from hers as far as decision-making goes. Dennis is a bit sadden that his role in life is changing. I believe he secretly would love for his children to forever stay "daddy-dependent"! I don't have that same secret wish. There is no greater joy in my life as a mom (so far) than seeing my daughters grown, educated and self-sufficient!

Dennis is squeezing in as much golf as possible lately. I love that he has this time with friends and he seems to really enjoy the sport. Wish the membership at Horseshoe Bay wasn't so cost -prohibitive!

My parents are doing well. Dad is recovering nicely from his Spring spent at the Proton Therapy Center at MD Anderson. August checkups will tell us how his tumor responded to 37 treatments. He looks great and I suspect his August appointment will bring more good news! My sisters and I are busy with plans for his 80th birthday party in September!

With Dad's treatments out of the way, I've been able to help out more with Martha's medical issues. Namely, her cataract surgeries this summer. She had one surgery last week and breezed right through that! Hopefully the next one will be just as easy.

We enjoyed having my Colorado sister's kids here for a few days. Those kids are amazing and were a true joy to have around. What kind, polite and helpful kids they are!

Work remains just that, work. Plenty to keep us busy, but boring all the same. Hoping to spend more time in Horseshoe Bay and less time in the office!

Dennis' niece, Sheri is moving back to Texas (Pearland) from California. I'm looking forward to re-connecting with her, since she's not been around that much. Hopefully, she's looking forward to re-connecting with us!
