Still looking forward to the last day of school!

I remember when the kids were little and the month of May rolled around. There was an almost palpable excitement in the Boedeker Household. Lots of year end field trips, award program, band concerts, etc. kept the excitement going. The last day of school was almost as exciting as Christmas Eve! It wasn't that there were fabulous things going to happen during the summer, it was just the chance to relax and recharge our day-to-day lives. Change was a welcome respite!

Now it's been 8 years since I had a child living at home and going to school, but our family still gets to live the 'end of the year' excitement because Emily is still living the "school life".

We get to go to choir concerts, we hear about track and field days, field trips and 'jean' week. All of those 'end of the year' events continue for the next generation of familes. I think the faculty members get just as 'giddy' as the kids for the sound of that last bell!

When school is out, that means weekends at the lake. Long, lazy days at the sand bar with a couple dozen other boats all filled with people wanting to relax and recharge from their everyday grind. Mornings setting up the smoker with a huge brisket, so that 10 hours later dinner is done and delicious! Late evenings on the back porch, hand feeding a herd of deer cup after cup of deer corn. Sunday afternoons watching Nascar on the back porch flat screen while playing dominoes on the picnic table.

Yeah, we're still looking forward to the last day of school!

PS. A huge Thank You to Shelley for re-vamping my sad little blog page.
