Well...
Day 11 no electricity! The yard and most of it's damage and debris have been piled high in the front yard, waiting for crews to come pick it up and haul it off. Our 15' tall ficus tree still leans precariously over the hot tub. We haven't figured out a way to stand it back up yet, nor do we have the heart to cut it down. The generator has gobbled up 40 gallons of gas to keep the frig, a fan and a couple of lights on. The neighborhood roars with the sounds of hundreds of generators cranking out power to each resident! The dining room carpet has dried out. The pool is suffering from days without filtration. We keep tossing more chemicals into it to try and keep the algae at bay. The house has developed a rather "funky" odor. Not sure where or what's causing that..may just be the humid air and no A/C that causes the house to smell.
Fortunately, Shelley and Steve have power, so we continue to camp out over there at night. Our office has power - so that makes the heat of the day easier to handle. Work is ....well a zoo! So many people with water damaged sheetrock. So many businesses with water damage on the island and in Kemah.
We did find out "lost" truck in Galveston yesterday. It was totalled! Mud and seaweed all over the engine and in the cab!
Materials on single story jobsites in Galveston were lost due to flooding of jobsites. Unfortunately, we don't have coverage for that loss - so we'll be eating that expense!

Grocery stores are slowly opening, except none near us (our area of town is still without power). Schools are still closed. Shelley's district plans to reopen next Monday.
No one in Pearland knows how to handle four way stop signs! With so many traffic lights gone or power out - getting through town is treacherous.
Sonic Drive-In is open! But you have to get in line for a parking space! Fortunatetly, the line snakes it's way through the Lowe's parking lot where State Farm has set up it's catastrophe unit. So while you wait to eat, you can file your claims from your car! Mobile unit ATM's are parked in bank parking lots with generators, so we can still get to cash. Some gas stations are open, but usually you only have one choice of gasoline grade and a limit on the purchase amount.
Anyway..that's the scene here in Pearland. Wherever you are - go outside and hug your A/C compressor! And then go flip a few light switches..just because you can!
Later,
